Research and Development

InterSafe is an “information/knowledge” based company with extensive experience in the application of that knowledge to industry and government organisations. Research is foundational to our training, consulting and litigation services so that the best quality information can assist in the systematic reduction of fatal and non-fatal permanent personal damage.

To date, our research has been strongly focussed on analysis of incident data sets utilising the appropriate combination of :–

  1. Taxonomy
  2. Modelling
  3. Hypothesis forming and testing

Research projects are initiated in two ways. They are either initiated by InterSafe or a Client.

Research – InterSafe Initiated

How does it happen? A ‘gap’ or ‘need’ is recognised. We may seek ‘partners’ for the project or we may self fund the project. Typical research projects undertaken by InterSafe are :–

  1. Volume 1 - “A Taxonomy of 809 W.A. Mining Industry Non-Fatal Incidents (≥60 Days Lost) 2003-2007” – WorkCover Data
  2. Volume 2 – “A Taxonomy of 548 W.A. Mining Industry Non-Fatal Incidents (≥60 Days Lost) July 1996 – June 2006” – DOCEP Data
  3. Volume 3 – “A Taxonomy of 671 “Potentially Serious” Occurrences for Surface and Underground in W.A. Mining 2003-2004”
  4. Volume 4 – “Capturing the Learnings From A Study Of 82 W.A. Mining Fatalities 1990-2006, 809 Non-Fatal Incidents (≥60 Days Lost) 2003-2006, And 671 ‘Potentially Serious’ Occurrences 2003-2004”
  5. Western Australian Construction Industry - A taxonomy of 1780 cases with ≥ 60 days lost July 2003 – June 2007. Data source W.A. WorkCover
  6. U.S. Crane Fatalities - A Taxonomic Analysis: Report, Volume 1, (1996).
  7. US Ladder Related Fatalities - A Taxonomic Analysis, (1998).
  8. US Scaffold Related Fatalities - A Taxonomic Analysis, (1998).
  9. US Roof Related Fatalities - A Taxonomic Analysis, (1998).

Research – Client Initiated

Clients often ask for studies to be completed of large data sets so that one to two years of strategic direction can be implemented. Some of those data sets have involved up to 10,000 records or could be as low as 100 records.

In addition, InterSafe has contracted with the Australian Government, Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations to undertake research projects for specific industries.
