Taxonomies

InterSafe has numerous Taxonomies available for download for registered users.

What is a taxonomy?

Taxonomy is a scientific method of classification that tells us what has happened before. Applied to safety incidents (including events where people are damaged) a taxonomy starts with describing each event.  Then, the events are sorted into groups that are like each other and unlike events in other groups. In doing this, we pay attention to common patterns and individual differences. Because it is a pattern analysis, a taxonomy can assist you to:

  • see types of incidents that keep on occurring
  • get insight into effective areas to target safety resources
  • see effects of initiatives over time
  • see where an incident fits into the broader pattern for your industry or workplace.
